Ten Ways to Repurpose Yarn this Christmas
Make the Best of Leftover Yarn
Besides crocheting and knitting, the obvious purposes for yarn, I have recently come to appreciate how many ways yarn can actually be put to good use. Using Pinterest and a few other sources, I have compiled a list of ways to use that leftover yarn to make cute crafts that you can even use for Christmas gifts!

Ten Yarn Crafts
- Yarn-wrapped recycled bottles. I love this craft because it involves recycling bothe yarn and glass bottles! Simply wrap the bottles with yarn, using craft glue to secure when necessary. I originally saw a row of colored-yarn bottles on Pinterest, so I decided to neutralize the colors a bit, cut out letters from scrapbook paper to express the JOY of the coming season, and added some spirally twigs left over from my wedding (available at dollar stores for cheap).
- Use yarn instead of ribbon to decorate your Christmas gifts this year. It will give your presents a rugged personalized look.
- Yarn-wrapped wreath. See a previous hub I wrote on making a wreath wrapped with yarn; the link is to the right.
- With leftover white yarn, three styrofoam balls in decreasing size, black wire and two small buttons, I indulged in my fanatical love of snowmen! Simply wrap the balls with yarn in plenty, using hot glue or craft glue to secure. To make the hat, use thin jewelry wire that is already black to wrap in a cricular motion, starting with larger circles and ending with smaller ones to make it look like a hat. To make the arms, twist the wire in a long skinny strand and push deeply into thesecond styrofoam ball. Glue the buttons on the front and attach the wire hat, and you're set! I still think he needs a scarf though-- doesn't he just look chilly?
5. Yarn wrapped letters. Use your old yarn or hemp to crap wooden letters found at any crafts store. To be really "green," you could use an exacto-knife to cut the letter shapes out of cardboard! Spell out a child's name, a family name, or just one large letter repsresenting a first or last name. Add embellishments such as a bow or fabric flower.

6. Hair embellishments. Tie colorful yarn around strands of heair like the feathering trend. Or tie them like bows! These embellishments can get pretty decorative- use your imagination and style.
7. Decorative yarn balls. See the tutorial by visiting the link to the right. Even kids can make this one! Display in a basket on a coffeetable or hang them from a ceiling.
8. Make a yarn stamp. Wrap a small wood block in yarn, making a pattern as you wrap. Dip one face of the block into colorful paint and stamp onto paper.
9. Wrap a plain lampshade with yarn to add a splash of color to the room.
10. Dream catchers. There are a variety of shapes and colors you can implement with these dreamcatchers.
